I'm from Canada and everytime I've gone into hot topic in the states the staff is other really helpful and non-judgemental.
i worked at hollister and some of the kids i worked with be pretty cruel "behind the scenes" when a "goth/emo/etc" would walk within. apparently hollister is the hot spot to get skinny jeans, so it wasn't surprising when people of different styles come in.
No ive walked into either store doing duplicate thing.
